Hidden Interiors
Posted by adamcs at 20:58. Category: General
These codes enable you to access interiors such as Wu Zi Mu's betting store, that you can't normally access during gameplay. Most of them are only used in cutscenes, during one particular mission, and some weren't used in the game at all. To access these interiors, select the necessary code, enter the "via" location and you are automatically taken to the hidden interior. Once inside, the only way to get back out is to kill CJ or reset your PS2. Have fun!

San Andreas PC on DVD?
Posted by illspirit at 00:37. Category: General
Squiddy over at GTAReactor sent in word that Take2's site has updated their San Andreas PC pages with proper pics of the box art (rather than the PS2 boxes from before). This in itself is hardly surprising as the PC version isn't far off. What is interesting, however, is that boxes indicate that it's a DVD-ROM. The DVD logo is rather obvious on the German version, and not much of a shock given the European market's tendency to release PC games only on DVD. The North American version on the other hand, has a quite small
"dvd rom" bit which might go unnoticed by most, save for the keen eye of Squiddy. While it makes perfect sense to use the format due to the size of the game (and soundtrack, which will surely have an option to stream from the play disk instead of installing), it is quite uncommon for a DVD-only PC release on this side of the pond.
There's been no offical word on if it will be available on CD as well as of yet, but now may be a good time for anyone who hasn't bothered with adding a DVD drive to their PC to look into doing so. Even if there is a CD version too, having a single DVD would be a whole lot easier than the 5+ CDs the game could ship on otherwise...

San Andreas: Top Selling Game of 2004
Posted by DigitalD at 13:38. Category: General
The NPD group has released video game sales numbers for the american market, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has come at the top of the list.
Despite all the hooplah about how many copies of Halo 2 Microsoft sold, according to the NPD Group, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sold more, making it the top selling game in 2004. Overall, the PS2 had six of the best selling games of the year; Xbox three, plus one GBA title. The GameCube had none. - Voodoo Extreme |
Looks like Rockstar and Take2 have had a great success. Take2 is even starting new projects with the profits from San Andreas sales.

Mini-guide Madness
Posted by adamcs at 23:12. Category: General
Completed all missions? Stuck on flight school? Interested in hidden features? If so, be sure to grab this month's issues of PSM2, PSW and OPS2.
PSW have a two-page feature on Easter Eggs, Hidden Features, Glitches, in-jokes and other activities that are available, whilst PSM2 describe to us the "35 Things you MUST do" in San Andreas:
Headless Homie You'll need to grab yourself a katana sword for this one. You'll find one behind the 69 cent store in El Corona, Los Santos. Find a two-player icon (there's one outside Denise's house), then hack at CJ with player two until he's wasted. When you return to the action, CJ will be headless, with blood gushing from his open wound. - PSM2 | |
The magazine also includes a mini-guide book outlining the 27 toughest missions in the game, with difficulty ratings and smart tips for each.
In addition to this, TotalGames.Net have published a special 148 page walkthrough with colourful maps, screenshots and tips to help you complete the game at only half the price of the official strategy guide.
Stay tuned for all the latest news and info.

San Andreas Cheats Discovery
Posted by DigitalD at 16:23. Category: General
It seems that edisoncarter's method of brute forcing button combinations to discover new San Andreas cheat codes has found a lot of publicity. News about him has even reached the distant realms of Slashdot and Joystiq.
So far the uncovered cheat codes have included infinite oxygen, gangs control the streets, reduced traffic, fast cars appear regularly and many more. Still to be found are the codes for all cars have nitrous, hydraulics, infinite health, armor and much much more. Edison himself has said this about his little 'project':
It's not an inside source or anything like that. I found them by scanning codes at high speed. I wired up a game pad to a PC's parallel port using optocouplers.
It was great to find an excuse to do a hardware project for a change. I haven't done wire-wrap since I was a kid. I'm certainly not recommending anyone try this. It takes some serious software to make this work.
For more information on these findings go see the cheats topic started by edisoncarter himself.

ARMax: Jetpack Unlimited Height Code
Posted by adamcs at 20:32. Category: General
We thought it was only possible for Gameshark owners, but now, thanks to edisoncarter we have a jetpack unlimited height code for Action Replay (PAL).
Jetpack Unlimited Height ARMax PAL:
QEV6-PTCF-814EG
V8YR-XBTR-XHH34
HW3F-ZP82-3YGR0
B6BF-0NBM-N5X3T |
To tell once you have reached the maximum height, push forward and back on your PS2 controller. If they no longer work as they should, you have reached the maximum height. Press R2 or L2 to move from side to side at a steady level. To fly above the maximum height, press and hold L3, whilst pushing the X button.
This code is useful for those interested in the hidden interiors such as Liberty City, which is now accessible thanks to this code (for ARMax owners).

EGMs San Andreas Afterthoughts
Posted by DigitalD at 12:53. Category: General
Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine has done an article about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in its January issue (number 187). The article appears in the "Afterthoughts" feature.
EGM interviewed Terry Donovan (CEO, Rockstar Games), Sam Houser (President, Rockstar Games) and Dan Houser (creative director) about the development process behind San Andreas. The feature also includes a "10 things you didn't know about San Andreas" bit which uncovers the known easter eggs, strange references, neat tricks and even has the fake picture of bigfoot.
EGM: So how can you top this?
Sam Houser: Well, if we didn't have to top it, what would be the point? The beauty of working in games is that you're not held back by a fixed medium. If you look at TV, or movies, or music, it's completely static, but with games we get to see the medium evolve. Every five years the nice people at Sony give us new toys to play with, and we get to reinvent the wheel again. With that in mind though, we don't want to abuse the franchise, and we only want to make stuff when there's a reason for it. This is the trilogy for now, and we're not in a rush to do the next one. We're looking at the next generation of hardware for sure, and if you think about the enormous difference there is between PS1 and PS2 and then do the calcuations on how much more we'll be able to do if the leap is to the same degree for PS3, well...it's very exciting. |
You can read a section of the interview online.

In related news, NPD data has shown that the new Grand Theft Auto has reclaimed the number one position in the Canadian market.

Paving the Way to the 'Big Screen'
Posted by DigitalD at 02:39. Category: General
It seems that every time a successful GTA game is released, gossip pages start whispering hints and writing articles to their writers about a possible Grand Theft Auto movie. I'm sure you can find news on our older sites GTA3.com and GTAVice.com about the same thing, and it seems Variety Magazine has decided it's time to write another article about bringing video games to the big screen.
Rockstar's plans are less clear, but the company has reportedly snubbed interest from major players including Tony Scott and Eminem, and there are hints it may be working on its own script as well. Its execs were also unavailable for comment. - Variety Magazine |
We can assure our readers that this is nothing but gossip and has been written with gaining readers in mind. There have been murmurings about a GTA movie ever since GTA3 hit it big, and possibly even before that, but the only Grand Theft Auto movie that has seen it past the rumors was released in 1977.
You can read the article for free if you sign up for a 14-day trial at Variety.com. A full transcription and a discussion can be found at the forums.
UPDATE: You can see some quotes from Rockstar regarding a possible GTA movie on GTAVice.com.

Minor Updates & New Chat Server
Posted by DigitalD at 15:13. Category: General
With the holiday season having just passed and people still recovering from the parties, it's a rather slow time for GTA news. There are of course the continuing allegations of San Andreas encouraging violence, but I think we've all seen enough of those and there's no need to post every single one of them.
In other news, our chat network has expanded and now harbors an extra server, sponsored by WebHost-IT (thanks a lot guys!), which should provide more stability. Come and join us in #gta on irc.GTANET.com, or if you don't have an IRC client installed, use our web-based client at GTANet.com.
We've also setup a small splash page at GTANet.com, which can be used as a portal for our network. On the technical side, our GTASanAn.com domain now points to GTASanAndreas.net, but all your bookmarks and previous links should still work, and redirect straight to GTASanAndreas.net. And last but not least, the artwork piece from the San Andreas contest page has been added to the artwork page.
